AITA for commenting on someone I dated’s fashion and making him feel judged?
So, I (22F) dated a guy for a month and a half (30M) but there’s one thing that happened recently that left me feeling unsure about whether I crossed a line.
We were talking about fashion, and he asked me to send him pictures of outfits I think he would look good in. I sent a bunch of pictures, but he didn’t really like most of them, only a few stood out to him. During the conversation, I pointed out a picture of a guy wearing a watch that I thought tied the whole outfit together and said something along the lines of how a simple but nice watch can make a person look more polished and refined, even if it’s not super expensive. He did not like that comment and said it was a red flag.
He then asked me if I thought he needed help with his fashion, and I ended up giving him some honest feedback. I mentioned a few things about outfits he had worn on past dates, including a specific watch that I didn’t like. It was blue and had some sort of pop art design. Honestly it looked very childish, something a middle schooler would wear. I can tell he was becoming less engaged and hung up the phone.
He texted a few minutes later saying that in his past relationship, he was defaulted to being judged for what he wore, and he felt triggered by my comments.
I just up ended things with him but as I am reflecting I wanted to know, am I the asshole?
TLDR: the guy I was dating asked about fashion advice, I gave it to him straight, and he got upset and triggered because of an experience in his previous relationship
