Mother’s fridge/freezer has been icing to the point where it’s pushing the doors forward and won’t close. I’m wondering how dangerous this is please?

So my mother’s freezer has been slowly icing up for ages and pushes the draws forward to the point the door won’t close. She hasn’t de frosted it until now as she had food in there. It’s currently de-icing. My question is how dangerous is this? I know the refrigerants aren’t something anyone wants to mess with. She doesn’t want to buy a new one as she is about to move house. The last photo damage was me getting a little energetic when hacking away at the ice.
