Why didn't paramedics try to resuscitate my 23 year old fiancé?

Paramedics arrived very quickly after the lvoe of my life overdosed. I don't know when exactly his heart stopped beating, it could have been 3-5 hours before they arrived as the last time I saw him was around 2am and they arrived at 7.

Cyanosis was present on his lips and toes and he was incredibly cold and when I gave rescue breaths, I heard a gurgling sound.

Paramedics came in, placed his fingers under his neck and said there's no pulse and called it. And that was it. My life and world imploded then and there. I just want to know why they didn't try to resuscitate him. He didn't have injuries incompatible with life.
