The dreaded Giardia

On second round of treatment now for my 2 cats. This time Metronidazole was added along with the Panacur.

I am losing it haha. The first time around it was hell giving them their medication. 1/3rd of the syringe ended up down the front of their necks, on the floor, and all over me. I was persistent with the med and did bleaching/litterbox cleaning. A lot of the cleaning advice on here seems almost impossible. I cannot take time off work for a full 8 days to be able to do the crazy extreme cleaning multiple times a day. Would it be worth it to have a professional cleaning company come and steam the floors leading up to the end of treatment?

Most recently, my one cat threw up all over me trying to give him his medicine and now that’s a wasted dose! This has already been highly expensive between the exams, stool samples, and suspension meds. They need to take every single dose and now it’s wasted I feel like I’ll have to pay another $100 for new meds because the treatment won’t work again.

I swaddle them in a burrito, I rub their necks, I blow on their face. I did what the vet said but they still just somehow spit it up. I’ve done inserting on the side of mouth and as aggressively as just shove it down the best I can. I tried dispensing all at once and a little at a time with no luck.

It’s around $800 to medically board them for a week in isolation and even then it’s a much smaller space than the apartment - I feel like it will almost be easier for them to reinfect themselves but they may have more luck administering the meds. I asked the vet if I could bring them in once a day for meds and they said yes but one of the meds is q12hrs and they are not open at 5am before I go to work for me to be able to bring them back at 5pm for their second dose of the day.

Any and all advice welcome. Even encouragement haha. This is a nasty and persistent parasite and I feel as though I’m just getting started.
