People misinterpret me a LOT
In person this happens frequently because my face/tone apparently don’t match my words and people think I’m manipulating them and/or being passive aggressive (I literally never am, I am 0% or 100% aggressive). But it happens waayyyyyy more over text. I very rarely have positive interactions over text (online, emails, text messages, literally anything) despite trying my hardest to indicate tone and be polite. I can’t think of a single time that I had a falling out with someone that wasn’t caused by a misinterpretation of my tone (and then that person choosing to be rude and passive aggressive rather than communicating with me).
However, I will say that when I am in a position of authority over someone, I almost get the exact opposite reaction, like my blunt communication is preferred and they fawn over it. I don’t get it at all. I bet if I was a man I wouldn’t get nearly as much pushback. Or at least given more grace.
