The NCAA and NAIA should adopt the NFL's dynamic kickoffs AND the defunct AAF's onside replacement.

Safety should be more paramount in college sports since only the top level players are receiving life changing money and the benefits decrease with lower levels. I'm not going into the merits of the education provided. That's a way bigger topic. However, we should be for limiting dangerous play and kickoffs are the most dangerous regular part of the game. The NFL has taken the top speed momentum out of it by making both teams remain still until the ball is receive or touches down in the 'landing zone'.

Obviously surprise onside kicks are also eliminated so I think the Alliance of American Football's approach could be used. The trailing team could retain possession after a score by converting a 4th and 12 at their 28. College football would need to tweak that and maybe even allow teams to have multiple attempts per game regardless of the score. I'm not sure you could let tOSU use it every time against New Hampshire ('27) because UNH may not get a single offensive possession. I just picked the Buckeye's weakest future opponent.

This will change the overall gameplay and strategy but I don't think it will be that dramatic. It hasn't been a huge difference in the NFL.

Just to be clear- I don't watch much of the NFL. I don't like the meat market approach to non stars. I also don't like the NBA creeping into college basketball like the 30 second shot clock. Give me a team who can control a game by cutting down possessions. I just don't see how kids aren't already suing schools for concussion injuries. I want the sport to continue but with less dangerous play. Universities should be ashamed that the NFL is taking safety more seriously.
