Should I continue on or change?

I’ll try to keep this a concise as possible. Just to preface, not a CFP(yet) but an advisor who works primarily in fee based accounts, 93% fee based with exception being mostly cash management accounts.

I was a career changer who decided to accept my offer to go into financial planning and start March 6, 2020, 10 days before lockdown. I had my pick of where I wanted to land with a great sales background and skillset based on building relationships. I ended up at a medium-large sized warehouse, I’ll leave the name out, but the choice was great. I have had nothing but support from the firm to do what was best to grow a book and serve my clients as I see will best help them for long term success. Never a product or strategy pushed on the firm’s end.

Fast forward I’m about 4 years past finishing being licensed. First 12-15 months were really tough not even being able to sit with someone for a cup of coffee, but I kept fighting and grinding through. My mentorship program didn’t really go as planned, as my mentor who I respect a lot, moved down to Florida to enjoy passively managing his book and prospecting off his referrals once the pandemic hit and he realized he didn’t ever need to be in an office. I’m currently at 20m AUM with enough in my pipeline to expect to be about 22-24m by end of year. I’ve done all of this without ever even shadowing another advisors meeting. I had no major connections to big accounts. I just know my strong suit is building and growing relationships. I took a boots on the ground approach being very involved in local communities, ie chamber of commerce and other networking groups, and just stayed very involved.

This brings me to my question of do I stay the course as a solo advisor or look to join onto a team? I feel I’ve been at a disadvantage to not have a team to leverage or more importantly learn from. I’ve always been a great learner by watching others and developing their skills into my own version that works for me. Im concerned about hitting a wall with how I’m going about it. I’ve been approached by a few teams both internally and externally, and there’s one of each I’m currently being prospected by. Every team likes to tell me you can’t make it on your own these days, and part of me feels like it’s a move to get me to join, but the other gets concerned about the proverbial wall. I would prefer to stay at my firm, maybe I’ve drank the kool-aide but I truly believe they are one of the great ones(sorry to those who think just start your own RIA).

Thank you for bearing with me in this kind of lengthy post, I’d love to hear from others experience as well as general opinions!
