What would effective public transportation look like for a city of our size?
Inspired by the meme, I ask this out of genuine curiosity and wanting to learn.
I'm curious on what an effective public transportation system looks like in a city of our size. Assuming a lot of buses, how would we ensure those could:
- Run well and on time
- Not lose a tremendous amount of money (it's a service though, so some loss is fine, and any profit is incredible)
- Have enough stop points given density, while also having good route times?
I live in WA off of Magwood and 61. For me to get to a main road is about a 15 minute walk if I want some sidewalk, or maybe 10 minutes with no sidewalks. That gets me to a one-lane main road. I might simply not be the target market for public transportation; maybe that's downtown, or off of 17 and Glenn McConnell where there are large apartment complexes.
Just asking questions for a discussion. Genuinely want to hear different thoughts on what a good transportation system would look like.
Also, any examples from other cities near our size?
