Are here SERIOUSLY people who think drinking ANY Alcohol as a Christian is always wrong?
I just want to get this straight. I'm from a Lutheran background, so obviously the question of Alcohol is pretty clear for me. It's allowed in moderation. As it is for Catholics, Orthodox, Anglicans, Presbyterians etc
But I always see (from time to time) Evangelicals, Baptists etc who really make the point that Christians can't drink alcohol at all and they cat like that if you're "really a true Christian" you wouldn't drink at all and it just baffles me.
The stories from the Bible regarding Wine are clear. The Pope drinks wine. Martin Luther liked Beer. John Calvon liked Wine.
In the first 1600 years there was'nt even a discussion if Alcohol is forbidden for Christians afaik and yet there are some (mainly in the US) who Claim it is. Of course there are many good and valid PERSONAL reasons for INDIVIDUAL people to abstain but that's not the point at all.
So an honest question: What makes you think Alcohol is 100% forbidden for all beleieving Christians? Do you REALLY think sharing a bottle of Wine for family dinner or having two Beers while having good conversation with friends is sinful?
I really just want to understand how people come up with this position.
