What childhood meal did you eat that's different from anyone else's?

My mom never learned to cook, if she had her way the kitchen would have been used as a closet. She was also from another country. Given this and the fact that our refrigerator didn't work well we didn't have normal meals. I was recently talking with my sister about this, we are 14 years apart so our childhoods were different.

- "Grilled cheese" was two pieces of American bread with a slice of American cheese microwaved.

- "Mac and cheese" was made with tomato sauce instead of butter and milk.

- "Hot dogs" were thrown in the microwave, half burnt and completely split.

I really didn't know this wasn't the norm until like Jr. high. I still remember coming home SO mad about grilled cheese sandwiches. Please tell me I'm not the only one who had odd food growing up.

EDIT: I can't believe how much this post blew up. I love all the responses! Thank you for making me feel less like the special kid in school!!!!
