Commission or Hourly?! 🤔
I’m an owner of a new nail salon & trying to hire more nail techs! I’m trying to figure out how much is a reasonable pay rate! Seeing that we’re a new salon ( slowly growing clientele ) & also considering it’s the winter time so business is slower, i thought that hourly would be the way to go! Looking around, I’ve seen that most salons are commission based, higher percentage to which ever side supplies the equipment & material! We are an acrylic free salon specializing in gel alternatives ( heavy on Apres Gel X) To ensure each client is getting same quality we decided to supply everything instead of having the techs supply them! But seeing we don’t require them to bring anything, their percentage would be a tad lower to pay for materials ( around 40/60 ) or should we require them to bring their own things & we be very specific on the exact items & brand for a higher percentage ( maybe 70 / 30 ) Mind you we are super new so our clients are mainly walk ins…. So have techs schedules to come in and potentially make $0 for 0 walk ins or hourly to ensured they got paid for their time? I’m not sure which way i should go, there’s a pro and con to each way, i want to be fair, retain nail techs, but also make a profit…. I need help 😅
