Continuity Error?

Rewatching the show and I’m a bit confused as to how the Scavos met.

I remember earlier on in the series (don’t recall which season but before Renee joined) we learn that Tom was dating Annabelle Foster and they were colleagues at work. Told her he wasn’t husband material. Then Lynette joined the firm and he promptly dumped her for Lynette. Annabelle couldn’t handle it and moved back to Chicago I think.

But then in the later seasons they bring up the whole Tom had a one night stand with Renee while she and Lynette were still in college storyline.

So which one is it? Coz I doubt Lynette was working at some big firm while still in college. Just some continuity error I suppose🤔
