Can you connect DAPs to MacBooks?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I read on some post that MacBooks don’t recognize mp3 players that you plug into them, so I was wondering if it’s the same with DAPs. I personally have a Hiby R4, which would behave like an Android phone when connected, I suppose. I’ve been looking for a new laptop and, since I’ve never used a MacBook, it made me curious; and I’d like to know if they can even be an option for me or if they’re worth it at all. Thank you!
