My digital detox - new to DAP
I'm finally dumping the smartphone, something I've been wanting to do for a long time. I've dusted off my old Nokia and bought a physical planner. I'm extremely excited to feel like I'm living in the real world again.
The only thing missing from my life now is a DAP. I love music and I love heavier music. I was originally considering just dusting off my old iPod, but I managed to sell my old smartphone for $1000, and thought hey - why not actually invest in something with a really good sound?
So here I am, completely new to DAP. I have a huge collection of CDs which I guess I could rip over to flac, but other than that, I haven't built up an offline collection of music yet. I would like to start though!
So, for something up to $1000, what would you recommend?
- I just need it to play music, so it doesn't have to have a lot of features. I'm not looking for a smartphone replacement, just the music.
- As good sound as I can get with my budget
- I love tracking my listening to Last.fm, but it's not a dealbreaker if it doesn't. Would be great though!
- Could be an option to split my budget into $500 DAP and $500 headphones. I have the Marshall Monitor II, but I'm eyeing the III.
Any tips is highly appreciated, and thank you to this community for all the inspo!
