Just here to say Godfrey is the best base-game boss IMO
Having completed the game multiple times now, I feel this opinion more strongly for each time I've fought him. The spectacle is obviously amazing; the First Elden Lord, towering, earth-shaking, mantled by a whole Lion that he kills with his own bare hands, leaving him a blood-soaked mountain of a man ready to split you in half with the most terrifying grabs you've ever seen
He's aggressive, he's almost constantly attacking you, but his moves are intuitive to read and give you room to respond in between each one. His stomps encourage you to use jumps as a key tool for attacking and dodging, making him feel like a boss that truly engages with the full potential of Elden Rings player movement. He is a beautiful dance of combat
And then phase 2. I LOVE phase 2. He is terrifying and that's the point. He wants you to panic so badly, he is tailor made to catch your hurried rolling and split your spine in two for the error. This guy demands that you have courage, that you hold your ground until the moment his attack actually comes out; no boss made this click for me quite as much as him, and it feels incredible to learn
He is fair, he is fun, he is a perfect test of your skill and conditioning as a tarnished warrior. The only negative thing I can think to say about his fight is that god, I wish he had more health xD
