In the era of modern Internet and cellular networks, how useful is Ham Radio?

I work in private sector EM and we have a Ham Radio setup in our EOC. The ham group (all company retirees) are asking for money to do maintenance on all the radio equipment as a lot of the components are reaching their end of life. In the time that the ham group has existed, about 20 years, they have never been activated for an event that directly affected the company. So my question is how useful is ham radio in 2024 when modern cell networks and Internet exists? As a company we have commercial radios and cell phones as well as satellite phones as a tertiary. Most cell companies have emergency response teams that can have temporary networks up and running within hours of a disaster. So is there actual value added by having ham radio or would we just be spending a couple hundred thousand dollars so a bunch of retirees can engage in their hobby?
