Evade vs parry?

When do you guys use evade vs parry? I'm coming from the spiderman games so I'm used to using parry at a very specific, prompted time in the fight and I'm struggling to figure out when to use it in this game vs using evade, other than for red attacks obviously.

Can anyone shed light? New to gaming in general. Playing on Jedi Knight difficulty.

Eta: seems like I need to practice evading!!
