What has happened to the tranquility of Helsinki?
I’ve lived in Finland, specifically in Helsinki, for just a little bit over ten years, and one of the main reasons I’ve stayed and loved life here is the peaceful, slow pace to life.
I don’t write this to be condescending nor judgemental to anybody, but the past few months especially I really have felt a sharp dip in the quality of life in Helsinki.
I’m from a big city myself, so it doesn’t scare me or make me uncomfortable, but just makes me a little bit sad.
I see more people on the street, drunk or on drugs. I see more stupid behaviour from kids. I can’t go on public transport without somebody playing TikTok or some other form of noise pollution out loud. There are now frequently beggars walking up and down the train or metro asking for money.
Am I just growing older and naturally becoming more grumpy, or has anybody else noticed this decline?
