I still cannot get over the huge downgrade of F-Zero GX soundtrack in comparison to F-Zero and X.

Don't get me wrong. F-Zero GX is very solid and excellent addition into the franchise gallery. Rationally I think it is superior to F-Zero X in almost every category... except the soundtrack.

Perhaps it sounds ridiculous, but this was enough to make me come back to my N64 and play F-Zero X over and over again while I pushed my awesome F-Zero GT aside for a while. A feeling of pure delight took me over when I listened to the cheerfully exciting Dream Chaser (Silence), the ominious Devil's Call in Your Heart (Devil's Forest), the classic Endless Challenge (Mute City) and so on.

On the other hand, when I hear GX songs overall, I think they are just serviceable. They fit the vibe of a futuristic high-speed race. However, they failed to capture a magic touch present in the previous titles.

At first, it seems reasonable to suspect it could have been a nostalgic bias, but I doubt it. For example, I've played Mario Kart Wii much later and I enjoy its soundtrack more than its predecessors that I grew up with. I don't have any particular issue about techno music either, so I don't think it should be taken into consideration. Besides, I want to highlight Port Town and White Land themes in X have nothing in common with their original music. Still, I prefer the newer ones and I love how they suit perfectly into a final race song.

Despite my gripe, GX still has some catchy tunes. Planet Colors (Green Plant) is excellent and feels like a sweet exception among a sea of bland melodies. Why wasn't the OG Red Canyon theme (played in Chapter 2) chosen as the default stage music? It is so spine-chilling! At least, this banger comes back better than ever (I know you know which song I'm talking about even before check this out)... not before have beaten some cups in Master difficult though. :(

I don't know how much music influences in your gaming experience, but I am under impression if F-Zero GX had added songs as great as F-Zero and X, I feel it could have been my favourite racing game ever. The challenge, the customization, the graphics, the velocity... there are many aspects in which this game rocks. Somehow the underwhelming tunes undermine a bit my full experience.

Does anyone here feel the same or anything similar?
