What is the brightest most readable Instinct model?

I was drawn to the Instinct after seeing a few in the wild that looked incredibly bright and readable. Unfortunately in those situations it would have been awkward to ask which specific model they were. I purchased an Instinct 2x tactical and ended up returning it because I didn’t think it had the same readability that I observed on other people’s wrists. Just saw another one that I felt like I could read from across the room a few days ago, and it didn’t look like it was lighting up and dimming later. I feel a bit foolish about all this, can anyone help? I don’t think is down to the settings. I bought a Fenix 6 used, and I feel like if the backlight isn’t activating it looks too dark.
