Why does everyone hate Chris?
LOL, I know there is a show by that name, but seriously, why does everyone hate Chris?
Similarly, I don't understand why everyone has their panties in a twist for Luke! I feel I am the only one who ships Lorelai and Christopher. I am honestly stumped that Chris is not appreciated more.
OK, hear me out. Luke is good. Luke is reliable. The only reason why everyone seems to love Luke is because he did not try to change Lorelai. Yes, he was pining for her for a long time and everyone was rooting for them to be together. Yeah, Luke lives in the same town as Lorelai, tried to buy a house, but when he realized that Lorelai loves only the house she lives in, he immediately changed his mind. Yes, he loved Rory. But in terms of compatibility, I honestly think Luke is not enough. He doesn't have the same quirky sense of humor as Lorelai. He is also quick in his responses but he doesn't genuinely appreciate the way Lorelai's brain works and half the time, it looks like he just puts up with her shenanigans. He does not have the same background as her - granted, Lorelai ran away from her background, but still. I also feel like Luke acted like a jerk once he had April in his life. I only see hate for April but people are so ready to forgive Luke! Why hate on a child and not the adult who treated his fiancée so poorly? The redeeming quality I keep hearing over and over again is that Luke did not try to change Lorelai and loved her the way she is. Is that enough?
Compare that with Christopher. Lorelai raised Rory alone, but I feel that's only because she did not want anyone in her life. She kept both Chris and her parents away. Maybe Chris should have inserted himself in her life anyway, but Lorelai can be annoyingly stubborn. He was also a kid and maybe made the wrong decision that he needed to stay away since Lorelai clearly does not want him there. When people are so ready to forgive grown-ass Luke for how he treated Lorelai, why are they so unwilling to forgive a teenage Christopher for staying away? When they got back together, Sherry was pregnant with Gigi and so he had to stay away from Lorelai again. I was thinking, that he was doing the right thing by being there for his future kid and his girlfriend, but when you see other people reacting to that here, it's like he's Hitler. Also, the way he reacted when he saw Lorelai write that note for Luke's daughter was, in my mind understandable, because here was a man, who without provocation, came to his house and punched him on his face. Yes, he didn't have to blow his top off that way, but the hate he gets for that scene is incredible. The one thing I truly hated about him is the way he pouted and sulked when he wanted a baby and Lorelai said no. But, if you really think about it, he was acting out of jealousy at that time. Not very mature, but still, he is human. Christopher tried to be there for Rory, paid her tuition and came running when he heard Rory was in an accident. If Lorelai had let him in more, he would have been there for her more.
To add to everything, Chris and Lorelai had incredible chemistry! They grew up together - both growing up privileged and resenting their parents. They shared everything as teenagers, they have a baby together. Their sense of humor is alike. I love their banter!
Personally, I also think Chris is more handsome than Luke, but that has nothing to do with my love for Chris and Lorelai. If they had switched the actors who played Luke and Chris, I would have mentioned that Luke is more handsome, but still shipped Chris and Lorelai together.
Honestly, seeing the amount of hate he gets on this site, I am genuinely worried for my mental health. How can I see him in such a positive light when the whole world hates him? Do I need therapy?
