Where are the mushrooms?
Since one of my pupils was reading the books last year, I've decided, as a grown-up, to finally get familiar with them--to make "The Hunger Games" that now entered our colloquialism mean something. And I've enjoyed them. They are obviously for younger people than me, but still a good read. However, where are the mushrooms? I enjoy the trope that our survival duo, Rue, etc., are surviving from the forest. As a forager myself, though, surrounded by hunters in the village I live in, I've never heard of someone, who goes to the forest for food and doesn't pick mushrooms. There might be one or two types of them, but at least some. And this is just weird to me since all the other elements are there--wild herbs and fruits, roots, leaves, flowers, needles, and even bark. So... Where are the mushrooms? Is this just a major world-building flow, or? If there was something that made mushrooms impossible to grow during the Dark Days or prior to that, I believe the author should've devoted at least a paragraph to it. My bet is she just missed it. Or don't like mushrooms.
What do you think? Has anyone noticed it?
