Is this a hot take?

Im a little scared to post this but honestly I'm kind of curious what y'all think.

Im going to be real I was so confused when I saw the reaction to the reveal of Lestats pov when Claudia was turned. When I first saw that I honestly felt so bad for Louis. I think It really hurts to see someone who is normally so self sufficient and prideful literally on his knees begging for a reason to live, so despite how unfair it was to Claudia I felt more terrible for louis than I did initially. Being that hopeless and lost is scary.

Especially in the context of louis' loneliness/isolation and the fact that he promised to "be whatever [Lestat] wants" really chilled me - my initial reaction was that this man literally does not give a fuck about himself or his own identity.

But it seems a lot of people view that scene as Louis' "villian moment" where he is actively manipulating Lestat and preying on his vulnerabilities. It seems to be the most common interpretation and I secretly always thought that this perspective villianizes Louis more than it should. Considering he was pretty much actively suicidal I don't think he had the presence of mind to me like "hmm I think I know what to say to get Lestat to give me this"

I found it confusing considering when the Drop episode released, everybody was like "well I know the violence was bad but I feel so terrible for Lestat 🥺🥺🥺" it was just... Strange. It makes me feel like I'm missing something lol.

Edit: to be clear this ending bit is not trying to Insite any crazy arguments or anything, I'm comparing two very common fan reactions that always confused me, because I'm always curious about other people's opinions on interesting fiction.
