I need help understanding the season finale.

I understand there is an aspect of the unreliable narrator in how the story is presented. That said, I am not sure if I am supposed to be confused about Armand and Lestats actions/motives throughout the season or if I missed or misunderstood some scenes or plot points.

I got the impression that Armand was quite a powerful vampire (Easily throwing around a "young" Lestat when they met early on, freezing the entire coven at the dinner table when he was upset with their behavior, flying..). It did not make sense to me that the rest of the vampires could threaten or force him to do anything. When it was revealed later that he was a willing participant, if not orchestrator of the whole trial.. That also had me confused. Did he actually want Louis Executed?

Lestat also confused me as I thought he was an enthusiastic participant in the whole thing, but deeper into the season it looked more like he was there under duress.

So, am I supposed to be confused due to the unreliable narrator aspect? or have I misunderstood the seasons events and characters? Thanks.
