Should I start learning Japanese to kind of "deal" with depression?

I don't know if this is the right place for this kind of post, but here it is. So I've been feeling very depressed lately (I take medication prescribed by my psychiatrist) and wanted to get away from my thoughts and just focus on something interesting to me.

I've always been interested in Japanese language and culture because I like to read manga, watch anime and I listen to lots of Japanese music. I have tried learning Japanese before but I didn't have a lot of time because of exams so it didn't go well. Now that I have time and need to do something to get away from my thoughts, I'm thinking maybe I can focus on learning Japanese.

Has anyone had similar experience? Is it a good idea to start learning now or when I get better mentally?
