The most playoff wins Mahomes could possibly have at this point in his career is 22. He has 17.
I was thinking about the crazy pace Mahomes is on for playoff success, and I thought of a fun new way to represent it.
In 2018, the Chiefs were the AFC's 1 seed, meaning that the most possible playoff games they could have played was 3: the divisional round, the AFC title game, and the Super Bowl. They ultimately played in just 2 games, meaning Mahomes lost not only the AFC title game, but the chance to win the Super Bowl.
Here is each year of the Mahomes era and how many playoff games the Chiefs could conceivably have played in:
2018: 3
2019: 3
2020: 3
2021: 4
2022: 3
2023: 4
2024: 2 (pending the Super Bowl)
That adds up to 17 playoff wins in 22 possible games. In other words, Patrick Mahomes has won over 77% of all possible playoff games to this point in his career.
For reference, Tom Brady won 35 of a possible 67 playoff games (a figure which does not account for the 2002 season where he missed the playoffs), which gives him a score of 52%. Which, in fairness, is still sort of unbelievable.
