Conductor Assistant

I recently got a call about becoming an AC and was wondering what it would be like. I am 26 and have been looking for something like this. I understand the requirements would be a lot of overtime and weird hours but say 10 years from now would I be able to transfer into a different setting while still being in the LIRR? Could I make the switch into an office role? If I took this, would I still have time to complete a degree albeit online? If I am an assistant conductor, would I always be an assistant conductor? Thanks
