___ and ___’s relationship

Does caspian and Maddie’s relationship bother anyone else? In the first season she was what like 14, and he was 17? In the second season if I remember correctly it’s stated caspian is 18, which would mean Maddie is 15, which is when they get together. Really made it difficult for me to enjoy the series as much - although they did show Maddie had a learners permit/driving license, so maybe they retconned her age?
