Frozen at escalator

This afternoon I was shopping with my daughter. My left hand was full with bags and I intended to use the right to grab the rail. It was the damndest thing. I could not put my foot on the first step of the escalator to save my life. My daughter was ahead of me and had to go down and back up to come rescue me. Once she got me on the escalator I was, spatially speaking, very disoriented. I recovered once on the floor.

I have never experienced anything like this before.

Is this familiar to anyone else?
