OS recommendations with easy dedicated gpu support
Can anyone recommend me an OS to use for my plex media server that has easy support for a dedicated gpu?
I have been using debian 12 on an old laptop of mine that I use solely to run a plex media server. It works perfectly for lan use, but I am getting really bad performance when trying to use remote access. The main cause is that my dedicated gpu (gtx 1050 2gb) is not in use. The best performance I can get with my integrated graphics is streaming in 720p to one device.
After spending countless hours trying to install the drivers and launch the media server using my gpu I decided to give up since I only have some basic linux knowledge and heard that gpu driver installation on debian is quite difficult.
Some other small inconveniences I have been experiencing are when accessing the server settings through my browser from another device. Often the settings show that remote acces is not working even though it is. Sometimes the remote access is not working and I have to turn the setting on and off a few times to get it working again.
I am looking for an OS that makes the dedicated gpu driver installation easy so I can remotely stream to 1 or maybe more devices in 1080p. Preferably something like truenas, freenas, unraid, etc. incase I want to add further NAS functionality later on. Thank you very much for your recommendations!
NOTE: I do have the PLEX lifetime pass and I do have the dedicated gpu transcoding option enabled.
