You realize some people are too rich and stupid to be wearing a rep

Met a dude at the bar who was wearing a Yacht Master II. I showed him my franken 5 digit datejust. His first reaction to my datejust was ‘that’s not the real deal because the bezel isn’t fluted and Rolex only makes fluted’. I had to show it to him again and explain what a fluted bezel is, upon which he started geeking out. So it was my first hint that this dude knew nothing about watches.

I suspected he was wearing a fake because we were in some shanty town bar and he was just trying to play the ‘big guy’ act. But i soon realized i was so wrong. First, he kept calling his yacht master ii as ‘yacht timer’. Then he was telling me how he was on the waiting list for a ‘Nautilus’ from ‘AP’ because he has too many Rolexes and is sick of them. He bragged about having an ‘insider’ buddy who had a steel nautilus from AP available but this dude specifically only wanted gold because he wants that bling. I played along and asked what reference number he wanted and he just kept repeating ‘nah bro, i want the rose gold nautilus from AP’. I was amused and just played along.

But then he got talking about his investments and job offers at executive positions in a couple huge companies. And then his friend walked over who i realized is a famous celebrity in the country. Thats when i realized this mofo might actually be the real deal who just happened to wander into a shanty town bar with his rich af friends. The yacht master ii had to be gen simply because this dude was so rich and dumb about watches. The idiot could never be the type to have researched rep factories and NWBIG lists. This was the type of prick that just throws money at things that glitter.

I always eventually tell people my watch isn’t gen. So i told him and showed him videos of me servicing a VS 3135 and assembling the whole thing together. I love this hobby and i thought maybe he would appreciate it. However, when he realized it wasn’t fully gen, he got sour faced and just walked away. Later he came back and bought a shot for me because ‘he felt bad i was poor’ (literally in his words). Honestly, the whole exchange was so off putting, i left that night shit faced and bitter lol
