TIL: No serious walking after surgery.

So I’ve been originally thinking how I could still try to stay active after my surgery and figured at least I could go for walks around the neighborhood, etc.

Actually, dealing with the surgical over recovery, jobhunting that I’m currently doing, and the weather here in the mid Atlantic region I hadn’t really gotten a chance to do anything

Yesterday the weather was wonderful and so my wife and I went for a walk in the park, on a paved path, 3 mile round-trip.

I noted that partway in that my shoulder was feeling odd kind of pushed forward, but figured it was just the standard uncomfortableness of wearing the sling. But after the walk, the shoulder kept feeling worse and later that night, when trying to sit as a table to play a game, it was extremely uncomfortable, which led into the night and required multiple icing and pain meds to get it to calm down.

I thought it was weird and didn’t know why it was acting up

Today I had PT and got “the look” when I explained everything and was told by my PT that he never recommends that any of his shoulder surgery patients go walking/hiking while they are in the sling

Turns out that the sling fights against your natural swing of your shoulders when walking for distance and ends up, highly irritating your shoulder, and particular the AC joint

sigh … ya try to be good and …..

It’s still irritated some today.
