The 3DS line of consoles really is the best way to play dual-screen games

After seeing a lot of comments to “just get a 3DS/2DS”, it made me want to break out my 2DS XL again. I really think the library for 3DS and DS games is amazing and this little device, especially modded, can play so much. Not that other devices can’t run them well, because they absolutely can, but having screens side-by-side has always been an awkward experience for me. It’s certainly doable, but it really pales in comparison to using the original hardware.

I do have my gripes though. Virtual Console and Emulation leaves a lot to be desired outside of the DS/3DS games. Emulation for NES and SNES does work well and looks great, but i do feel a tiny bit of input lag for certain games like Contra (perhaps that’s just the trade-off with emulation in general). For GBA at least, the games run natively with Virtual Console, but the image quality is blown up and blurry which is less ideal.

At least everything works though and for me that’s important. I will still likely be always defaulting to my Steam Deck, but this device is very pocketable which fills a certain niche for me that I really hope to make more use of one day.
