Self-Taught SWE - 1st Full Year Salary
I was a manager in non tech companies before this. I have a BA from some no name school. In my previous company, I created some scripts to optimize processes and realized how much I enjoyed doing so.
Left that company in Jan ‘22 and went all in on teaching myself how to code. I landed an offer for a Software Engineer apprenticeship at a FAANG company 6 months later.
This is the first full year of receiving a non-apprentice’s salary.
In case anyone wants my opinion on breaking into the industry in a non traditional way: - Learn Python (it’s widely used and easiest to use for DSA portions of interviews) - Grind Leetcode (it sucks at first but definitely pays off) - Network (I had <100 connections on LinkedIn. I now have > 2,000. I got a chance at this position due to networking on LI. I’m also currently in the E4 loop w/ Meta thanks to LI)
I might receive some flack for not maxing out retirement accounts. I instead went all in on crypto. Let’s just say that my savings look so much nicer. But that’s beside the point.
