Breathing compensation

Hey guys I just picked up the 35 1.4GM to pair with my A7Cii. Right off the bat the stills and optical quality is amazing. The video has great potential, with one draw back that I’m sure many know. The focus breathing. I find that when I’m switching the frame to different subjects in dynamic shooting situations, the breathing is really pronounced. For example if I doing a simple pan from foreground to subject, the shift in focus just kills the whole vibe. I’ve turned on breathing compensation on my A7Cii, but the crop factor no longer provides the true 35mm FOV. Sure I could take a few steps back, but my question for those of you either using this lens and/or breathing compensation: is there any reduction in image quality when turning on breathing compensation? Theoretically doesn’t it use less of the cameras sensor?
