Trying to get gyro aim working in a particular title
So, I’m trying to get gyro aim working, specifically in MGS:V Phantom Pain. The game poses a few problems,
- does not support simultaneous mouse and gamepad input except in menus
- has very very limited ingame controls options. Just 1-10 scale for joystick sensitivity.
There is a community layout with gyro enabled, but I found it so insensitive that it wasn’t usable for me, also slow or subtle movements of the gyro appear to not be picked up by the game.
I was able to compensate for the sensitivity by cranking ingame joystick sensitivity way way up, then tuning it down to the level I want in Steam Input. What I was not able to do was eliminate the issue with small inputs where if your gyro movements are too slow or too small they will not register in the game, which makes it very very hard to aim with. This still happens with Enhance Small Movement Precision maxed out, Movement threshold set to 0, and Minimum Joystick output set to 1.
If I understand these settings correctly, at this setting the gyro should be way overly sensitive and jittering all over the place, but it still feels sluggish and ignores small inputs. If I didn’t know better I’d say it feels like the virtual “joystick” being manipulated with the gyro has a dead zone, but I can’t find a place to change that.
Any tips y’all might have for setting up gyro in troublesome games would be appreciated.
