Why did Blinding Lights pop off like no other song in his discography?

I’ve been a fan of The Weeknd for over a decade now and today I was thinking about why Blinding Lights specifically became his biggest song and statistically the biggest song of all time. Idk how this community feels but imo Blinding Lights is easily one of his weakest hit songs. It’s undoubtedly catchy but he definitely has catchier songs that didn’t get anywhere near the same level of recognition.

Is it because it’s his most “accessible” song to the general public? I feel like context also matters a lot. It was released during COVID and started popping off when TikTok started booming and impacting music listening. Like I remember nurses doing the Blinding Lights choreo on TikTok and it went crazy from there onwards. Still, it’s interesting to think about why it became his biggest song while being far from his best.
