what was british uni like in the 90's?

hi guys!!! im writing a research paper and I need information because I'm American and also born in the 00's so I don't have this perspective!!!

please tell me everything you guys know about what british university was like in the 90's, specifically the late 90's if possible. i'd love to hear any and all personal stories, especially if they contain anything you think an American 20 year old wouldn't know!!!

I am also specifically looking for any information on what experiences queer and Irish people had in uni during that time, so let me know!
