I'm tasked with patching Host and Guest VM's in a Hyper-V environment (Windows Server 2012 R2). Best practices?

I'm getting mixed answers everywhere I look, so I thought I'd come here. In what order should I run the updates? Update guests first, one by one then update host? Or update host then update the guests VM's? Or does it matter?

Appreciate any advice. Thanks!
