Overlong messages

It happens mostly with Minerva, but I've had it sometimes with Venus too, where the text that comes from the bot doesn't finish in one message and whether I let it complete the rest, or not, I can't edit the message, because no matter how tiny I make the message, it says the string can only be so many characters. Is there a way to deal with this, other than having to delete the message and then changing to Bacchus to get a smaller message?
