Parenting while Neurodivergent

As an AuDHD mom of an AuDHD 5 year old, it’s so hard not getting overstimulated and irritable. I’m very regimented and sensory-avoidant (I need silence and solitude), while my son is a sensory-seeker — so he’s loud, constantly in motion, climbing all over me, and vying for my attention.

He’s a relatively picky eater (i’ve seen worse but it’s no cake-walk), and when we’re together for extended periods of time, I feel like i’m constantly on the edge of losing my shit.

I cook things that he typically likes, and yet, he still refuses them rummages through the pantry for snacks. Transitions take forever, and it’s all like pulling teeth. I know coping skills and try not to yell, or give so many back to back commands, but I’m also rigid and struggle with emotion regulation. So it’s hard trying to feed him, feed myself, get him dressed, get myself dressed and out the door. He’s a really sweet kid generally and isn’t super defiant, but I just always feel so guilty bc my fuse is so short.

Just venting. I feel like a bad mom a lot of the time.
