Pirates of the Enchiridion Bugs?

I’ve just started playing, but the combat system is having problems in my game. Every “fight” title screen lasts at least two minutes long and I can hear the regular game noises when it’s stuck on that screen. If I try to run my game screen turns black and I have to restart the game to get the screen back to normal. It’s a fun game but really annoying whenever this happens every fight. I have emailed support about it but haven’t heard back from them yet. Has this happened to anyone else?

I just beat Fern, but my game froze right after I defeated him. It was just on a screen with them passed out. I had to restart but I am worried that I will have to fight him all over again and it might happen again. I have the Nintendo Switch version so I have to keep popping out the cartridge.

Update

It turns out that I have to keep beating him until it stops bugging out. It didn’t save after I beat him, or after I unlocked Princess Bubblegum.
