Is Sanskrit closer to Lithuanian and Tamil

Or more generally, is Sanskrit closer to the modern European Indo-European languages today, or the modern Dravidian languages? I'm curious as while Tamil and Sanskrit are closer geographically, they aren't in the same language family. Meanwhile, a lot of European languages and Sanskrit are in the same family.
