Isn't believing in God so selfish?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but religious people say you have to do good things to people so that you go to Heaven, so if a religious person does something good, they're not doing it because they believe that is the moral right thing to do, but just to save their own butt and not burn in Hell? That just seems so selfish to me
