How reputable do you consider EWG’s rating on skin products to be?
EWG is a non profit organization that rates and reviews skin products, cleaning products, food pesticides and more through their research and database.
I’ve done a little research on the skin products I was using in their ‘Skin Deep’ data base and come to find out a lot of my products were not that great.
The products are rated by individual hazard scores.
As their website states,
‘To calculate a product score, we review individual ingredient hazards and evaluate each product in relation to the rest of the products in the Skin Deep database. The safest products score well by both measures, with a low hazard rating and a fair or better data availability rating.’
The best rating a product can receive from them is ‘The EWG VERIFIED™ mark on a product indicates that the product meets EWG’s strictest standards for transparency and health.’
