I don’t know a better place to post this.

Avid listener to most all of the CZM network. Something hit me tonight.

All my life, even more so than my albeit early and escaping religious beliefs - I have felt and believed that adherence to the constitution was just a mandatory to be an American. Like, we can disagree and there can be some relatively minor squabbles in court over what is or is not constitutional - but generally AT MINIMUM, we have to just fucking agree on some constitutional norms and go with that as a society.

As of late, especially given the capitulation of republicans in the house - I’ve come to realize, the constitution as it is - is a 2 player game. And player 2, who has been slowly entering cheat codes for the last 45 years (or more if you want to count Barry Goldwater) has been gaining ground. And player 1, us, have largely been just staying course saying “I would never stoop to that level I’ll win on my merits”.

Well, player 2 kept winning and now they have fucking dropped the controller and started eyeballing the baseball bat in the room. We’re still staring at the screen wondering how to play against a player who has left the game completely.

If 37%-49% of Americans straight up just don’t give a fucking shit about the constitution anymore, can it hold credence? I’m not arguing that it shouldn’t, I’m just saying pragmatically if you have laws that 37%-49% of the country don’t agree are laws, are they really laws at that point?

Cause that’s where we are at. We are trying to legitimately win a game the other side has given up on and instead completely changed the rules if not the game itself.

As someone who served, for better or worse, Jesus it’s fucking scary as shit. I remember the oath I took but Jesus it’s starting to feel real different around here.
