Is there a trend toward competitive solitaire board games?

It seems to me that there is a trend toward less player interaction in board games recently. Is this real, or is it just a bias brought on by the games I've been exposed to recently?

Someone I know is setting up a Guild of Merchant Explorers game tonight, so I'm checking it out on BGA, and there's no player interaction at all?

Rallyman Dirt is fun, but there's less interaction between players than any other racing game I've played.

Even games like Let's Go to Japan and Fromage have fairly limited player interaction because of the fact that all players are playing simultaneously in their own space and have only limited and delayed ways to interact with other players.

I mean, I cut my teeth 35 years ago on war games, so maybe my expectations are skewed, but it seems like there's been a real trend towards people sitting around a table, playing solitaire or near-solitaire in their own space and scoring points at the end without actually doing much interacting while they play.
