US client is asking me if I'm interested in transitioning into a full-time employee (from independent contractor) in 2025
I have been with this client for over a year now and it is my dream job. The company is under a business as famous as Apple and Nike, the industry really aligns with my interests, the pay is great (80k), and my bosses are really kind too.
When I got this job, I was offered a contract as an Independent Contractor. Nung una natakot pa ako dahil sa mga nabasa ko online - na kapag contractor, any time pwede ka i-let go. I even tried to ask if they could turn my contract into an employee one, but my boss said titingnan muna nila. My manager really assured me na wala naman sa kanila kung IC ako or employee - we're all the same - and it really shows through their kindness and grace. They have indeed been treating me as if I were their employee; meron talaga kaming employer-employee relationship. I meet them at midnight and nagbibigay pa nga sila ng bonus every now and then (even though sabi sa contract ko, walang ganun). Kaya naging okay na ako sa ganitong setup.
Yesterday our HR asked me if I'm open to transitioning into a full-time employee. I really appreciated this because it was definitely an answered prayer. But then naisip ko, doesn't that mean bababa ang sahod ko, since contractors get their pay in full and employees don't because of taxes? So tinanong ko, how would it affect my current setup and my salary.
He said the main reason was "to make sure you feel part of our permanent team... and ensure our relationship is appropriately classified under PH law." (Does anyone know why suddenly may pake sila sa PH law? Does it have something to do with Trump? Dati kasi tinanong ko na sila kung pwede nilang gawing employee ang contract ko since it would be illegal to treat a contractor as an employee, which they've been doing to me)
Accept ko ba yung offer na mag-transition into full-time employee? Gusto ko talaga sana (para 2x a month ako sasahod and auto-deduct na ang tax ko, hassle din pumunta ng BIR eh). Concern ko lang is baka maapektuhan sahod ko. Breadwinner po ako ng pamilya ko (family of 7) so I can't really have that. What do you advise here?
