For mums of babies diagnosed with CHD in utero, how was the birth?
Hi there
I am booked in for an induction in 5 weeks and my daughter has a few things wrong with her heart including borderline HLHS , VSD and coarctation of the aorta.
My son had CoA but it was undiagnosed so it didn't change how I have birth.
I was just wondering what the birth experience was like and did they take the baby away straight away? They said they will need to give baby meds to keep that vein thingy? Open and I won't get much of a hold whilst they get her medicated. I was just wondering how quickly they tend to do that?
Also, were you advised anything in particular like C section, no water birth, epidural , or anything else?
I am writing my birth plan to include no epidural if possible , water birth if possible , and moving around as much as I can but I don't want to get too set on my birth plan if there are certain things that are an absolute with CHD births.
Also, my baby has borderline HLHS and they said they won't know till she's born whether she is on a single ventricle pathway. If anyone knows , is there a timeframe when they find this out? I'm imagining they will somehow know that day but I really don't know what to expect.
Thank you
