Some observations about crime in your city by a foreigner

Hi everyone. I'm from Cape Town South Africa.

I come to your city a few times a year and have been doing so for past about 3 years.

I have been watching your city change every time I visit.

I used to think there is no crime in your city, but just check the stuff posted on this subreddit and you'll see there are lots of things happening, kid nappings, shootings etc all in the past few months. I don't think it would be a stretch to say that much of Copenhagen's problems drive over the bridge from Sweden.

Just a few observations:

  1. Most Copenhageners think that gangs only exist and operate in Christiani. I know a thing or two about gangs and from my point of view the gangs are everywhere, especially in the City Center.

  2. Most Copenhageners have the situational awareness of a todler,(I don't mean this as an insult) that is why we see so many complaints on this subreddit about people holding up the door on the metro. Please pay more attention to what is around you, don't get stuck on your phone while in public. Your city is allot more dangerous than you think. Imagine for example you were in fields mall when that shooting happened, if you had good situational awareness it could've bought you time to get out of there.

  3. Even though most self defense weapons are illegal, there are more and more places selling them in your city. The more crime happens the more popular these kind of shops become, we also have them in South Africa. Don't think its co-incidence that I saw one in the city center.

  4. I used to see police when I walk around the city. Lately I see none. I've only seen private security and some people in military uniform( not sure if it was real uniform or not). This is not good. Police should be visible so people are discouraged from doing crimes.

Let me leave you with this thought: If Sweden isn't safe and they can just drive over in Copenhagen, what makes you guys think that Copenhagen will be safe and the way it was for long?

Anyways. I'm probably going to get allot of hate for this post, but I love you guys and I just want you to be more careful and situationally aware. Don't live in fear, but don't live in ignorant bliss either.

I love your city and I wish only the best for you and your city.

Be safe, be careful and look out for each other.
